I Heart THE INTERNET
The Internet is the second Renaissance - Let's cherish it together.

During the 14th Century cultural movement, Art & Design moved from the confines of royal palaces to the street,
for the whole working class to enjoy. As quality of life improved, so did education, political mechanisms, as well as the intellectual pursuits. The 'Information Super Highway' is bringing those same changes again - in our lifetime.
With Websites like Deviant Art, YouTube, and MySpace Music, people have an outlet for their talent & creativity - unlike any others before. For the first time in history we can make friends, build communities and grow with others all across the globe. Communal discussion boards exist for virtually every topic. Sites like these express mixed views from many walks of life. This boosts critical thinking for their active members no matter where they are in life, or the world. Cultural and racial borders are being broken, as we realize we have more in common as 'humans', than we do as 'nationals' or any other classification.

I Heart TECHNOLOGY
People do not control Technology. Technology controls people.

Most people think of "Technology" as flashy gadgets and electronics - but that's a naive understanding.
Fountain pens were a technological improvement over writing with a feather quill. Ballpoint pens, followed by mechanical Typewriters, were successors to the Fountain pen. All of these helped make written communication easier, though none of them were electronic until modern word processor software. Technology is not the electronics, it is the byproduct of our desire to work hard for a better life. People pay for things that make life easier, such as automobiles or telephones. Technology is market driven. As technology advances it makes it easier to design & build more life enhancing products. There is no single government, corporation, group or person who decides what technology is. Technology leads a life of it's own, and evolves to meet environmental, personal & cultural demands. We do not control technology, technology controls us through our desire to improve our own lives.
I love technology because it has brought me a great many joys, and makes life better.

I Heart CREATIVITY
Creativity is what separates Humanity from Nature.

Whether you believe in creationism, evolution, a mix, or neither is beyond my point: the defining skill of humans that separates us from the animal kingdom is our ability to be creative. One might argue it's standing upright, or our opposable thumbs, but without creativity we would have never been able to CREATE the tools, the shelters, the automobiles, or the modern society we have today. Society would still be amazing even if we were walking on all fours and unable to grasp our energy drinks. No matter what profession you are in, be it hairstyling, automotive, sport or engineering - a creative worker will be a better worker. They say that imitation is the greatest form of flattery.
I believe this is true, because anyone can copy. Anyone can go "by-the-book." Anyone can practise a skill or train for a talent. To create where there was previously nothing or to find a new path in the dark takes a certain type of attitude. One must have the virtues of optimism and positivity to be creative. Imitation lacks creativity - to be imitated means to be gifted with a winning attitude. Celebrate it.

I Heart MY CUSTOMERS
Forget how to barter, and you've forgotten how to live.

They say, 'The love of money is the root of all evil.' I say, 'The fear of debt is the root of all evil.' Money is great because it allows us to work in any profession, no matter how obscure, and still obtain the necessities for survival.
Before monetary systems one must trade labor or commodities to survive. Having an obscure profession meant having less opportunity to trade. On the contrary, having a common talent meant fighting many competitors.
Web design is in great demand these days, but the market is saturated with competing design firms. My trade is web design and I thank all of my customers who were willing to barter with me. I am human - not a faceless corporation. I ask competitive market rates for my work, but I'm not afraid to haggle. When you call my number, you will always reach me - not a secretary or anyone else. When you need a website, a brochure, or anything, I'll always help out with a personal touch. I appreciate my customers for remembering how to barter for the craft they need.
