Sure Strike Commercial

Sure Strike - Laser Training Bullet Commercial

I was commissioned to make a short intro film / commercial for a product that Fast Draw Supply was selling. It’s a pretty cool product. It’s a laser in the form factor of a bullet. It can be loaded into any standard chamber. When the gun’s hammer strikes it, instead of sending lead flying it emits a burst of laser light. This way many types of firearms can be turned into safe-for-training laser guns.

Fast Draw Supply sells items for Cowboy Fast-Draw competitions. Typically they fire wax bullets at special targets that light up. The targets are connected to a computer that measures how long it took you to hit the target after it lit up. The Cowboy with the fastest time wins.

Fast draw started carrying the Sure Strike laser bullet, so they could simulate fast draw competitions without having to worry about lead, wax, and gunpowder. Of course, they still hold the competitions traditionally but now they can practise safely at home.

Now that you have a little bit of background knowledge, the following video will make more sense. Otherwise, the target and the time is kind of abstract and weird. I used Blender to render the 3D wireframe of the Colt, and the rotating last bullet. Unfortunately I didn’t know about Cycles in Blender yet so the bullet model doesn’t look as good as I could make it today. I used Photoshop and Premiere for everything else!
