Blockhead

Blockhead

I discovered Blockhead when his music video for “The Music Scene,” went viral a couple years ago. The music video (see below), is a MUST WATCH in full screen high-def. After grooving to the video, I decided to check out what other sounds the musician had to offer. Little did I know, I’d stumble upon an amazing album and a great artist! Further, I was already sorta familiar with Blockhead. Turns out he was the author behind some Aesop Rock instrumentals I used jam all the time, and he had a few songs on my favorite internet station monkeyradio.org! Like many of my favorite artists, he is on the Ninja Tune record label.

Via Wikipedia:

James Anthony “Tony” Simon, better known by his stage name Blockhead, is an American hip hop producer based in Manhattan, New York.
Aside from his solo efforts released on the Ninja Tune label, Blockhead is most associated with producing for Aesop Rock, a rapper for the indie hip hop label Rhymesayers. He has also previously worked with rappers Cage, Hangar 18, Open Mike Eagle and Murs. He is also a member of the comedy hip hop group Party Fun Action Committee. According to him, his stage name comes from the shape of his head: “While it’s not square, it’s pretty close.”
